Welcome To The Cutting Edge of Medical Research and Development. The Information You Find Here Could Save Your Life.
EVERY 20 SECONDS, SOMEONE IN THE U.S. HAS A HEART ATTACK. In fact, the number 1 killer of Americans is cardiovascular disease, and its been that way for more than a hundred years. There is a 1 in 5 chance that you will die from heart disease. Year in and year out, the second leading cause of death in the U.S. is cancer, and the third leading cause of death is stroke. Together cancer and stroke are as devastating as heart disease. Nearly half of the people who read this page--yes that includes you--will die from one of these three causes. It is almost certain that at this moment either you or someone you care about has cardiovascular disease, cancer or cerebrovascular disease (the cause of stroke) and will ultimately die as a result.
We Americans dedicate a significant portion of our national resources to health care, 2.3 trillion dollars in 2007 alone. For decades, through our government and through direct support, we have provided vast funding and favorable legal and financial treatment to huge institutional charities, research hospitals, universities and above all else, drug companies. Our support was based on the promise that they
will find ways to protect us from heart disease, cancer and stroke. Yet, generation after generation these same killing diseases continue to stalk our society. We must find a better way.
The Open Source Medicine Foundation is dedicated to advancing research and the development of new treatments in areas where our reliance on traditional institutions has failed us. For example, OSMeds.org is funding the FREE HDL project, which is designed to develop a high density lipoprotein, HDL cholesterol, to be made publicly available at low or no cost for the treatment of blocked arteries. One of the top researchers in the field described HDL cholesterol as "Drano for the arteries." It removes deadly plaque deposits and reduces the risk of heart disease and stroke. It can actually reverse the effects of atherosclerosis (commonly called hardening of the arteries), and it has been demonstrated to have a remarkably beneficial effect on dementia, the most devastating aspect of alzheimers disease. You can read more about the FREE HDL project on this website and in many other locations on the internet. We encourage you to educate yourself on this topic. Your life and the lives of the people you love are at stake. In the end, we need your help to make this project and others like it work.
